A Note from Pastor

“But in your hearts regard Christ the Lord as holy, always being prepared to make a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you: yet do it with gentleness and respect, having a good conscience, so that when you are slandered, those who revile your good behavior in Christ, may be put to shame.” (1 Peter 3:15-16)
On June 25, 1530, Lutheran laymen, committed to the pure teaching of God’s Word made the good confession “of the hope that was in them” before Charles V, Emperor of the Holy Roman Empire at Augsburg, Germany.
When they were threatened with death for their faith, George, the Margrave of Brandenburg, stood before the Emperor and said, “Before I let anyone take from me the Word of God and ask me to deny my God, I will kneel and let them strike off my head."
491 years later, we still hold to this confession and teaching in our churches.  The Word of God does not change and neither does the doctrine it conveys. Therefore, on Wednesday and Thursday, June 23-24, we will gather for vespers and catechesis for the whole family and will continue to teach and confess before God and man what was boldly presented then.  On Friday, our brothers and sisters at Peace Lutheran Church have invited us to join them for a light supper, devotion on the Augsburg Confession, homemade ice cream and a White Elephant gift exchange.
Finally, on Sunday afternoon our youth are planning a concert focusing on hymns and sacred music from throughout the church year. What a blessing that our Lord has kept us faithful to continue to confess the doctrines once presented so long ago at Augsburg.
